According to the Knight-Ridder News Service, the Medicare Prescription Drug Benefit bill is estimated to increase pharmaceutical company profits by $2 billion in 2006 alone, and has been estimated to provide as much as $40 billion in extra profits over 10 years.

On November 25, 2003 Santorum voted for the Medicare Prescription Drug Benefit bill, which created a prescription drug benefit for Medicare and made structural changes to the program allowing beneficiaries to obtain coverage through traditional Medicare private health plans.  Congressional Quarterly Almanac, "HR 1 Summary," 59th Edition, 2003.

NOTE: Santorum voted against the Senate version. When the House version was substituted, he voted for the final passage of the bill.
