Rick Santorum threw yet another tantrum this weekend and this one was captured on video.
In the following clip Rick gets agitated by a Pennsylvania teacher who tells him she's unhappy that her tax money was used to cyber school his children in Virginia. Rick tells her he pays taxes in Pennsylvania, not Virginia. Does that mean he doesn't pay property taxes on his, uh, second home? During that exchange a passerby yells that he hates Rick's commercials, which prompts an apology from Rick.
After the exchange Rick goes on a tirade about one of his favorite targets - the media. It seems he's upset that they would cover his heated exchange with a constituent. It looks like someone needs a timeout. Watch the video:
I think the more relevant objection to his rebuttal was that she wasn't complaining about how his taxes were spent, she was complaining about how her taxes were being spent. Where he pays taxes was totally irrelevant to her point.
"Wages earned from work performed in Pennsylvania by residents of Indiana, Maryland, New Jersey, Ohio, Virginia or West Virginia are not subject to Pennsylvania State Income Tax under a reciprocal personal income tax agreement. If PA taxes were improperly withheld from residents of these states, a tax return should be filed to obtain a refund."
Property taxes are a different matter, of course, and he certainly would have to pay property taxes in the state where his property is.
Santorum lives in Pennsylvania at all. He has to maintain an elaborate fiction to maintain his Senate seat. So he must have some addresss in PA, whether he rents, owns, or has a P.O. Box. I assume he would pay income taxes to the state of 'residency'.
The second half year payment is currently due.
Even if he pays PA taxes, they surely don't equal the ~$50k/year it takes to cyber-school his children. PA residents are making up the difference.
Sadly, his constituent lets him get away with his bullshit misdirection. And did you see at the end, he pats her on the back condescendingly even though she is offering her hand? A handshake is between equals; a pat on the back isn't.

Also, in 2001 Penn Hills had to sue Rick and Karen to get them to pay their school taxes. See Allegheny County court docket DTD-01-006668. They paid the 2001 tax amount of $ 222.77 one year later in 2002.
